Film makers Tom Mansfield and Tom Swindell have filmed a short entitled “Felix’s Machines”. The film will showcase tonight at the Covent Garden Apple store along with a live set by the machine itself ‘driven’ by its creator Felix Thorn.

The film was shot extensively using Moving Picture Hire’s motion control tracking rig helping give the film a 3D feel by adding depth using controlled change of parallax. Combined with conventional picture control, shallow depth of field, Bokeh and lighting, “Felix’s Machines” does justice to the musical sculptures.

The motion control rig was easy to transport and rig, and came within my budget reach. It really lifted the production values of my film by giving me the ability to do beautifully smooth controlled tracking shots on a macro scale.

Human Planet – Jungles aired on BBC1 last night and never in my career have I had such an overwhelming response. Texts and emails came flooding in with praise. All credit to producer Tom Hugh-Jones for crafting such a compelling programme from what is one of the most challenging habitats.

The use of an MPH cable dolly gave a cinematic lift to the Korowai treehouse sequence.
